As a photographer and general outdoor enthusiast deeply inspired by the beauty of our natural world, I feel a profound responsibility to fight against climate change and advocate for access to outdoor spaces. These issues are critical for the health of our planet and for future generations to enjoy the breathtaking landscapes we often take for granted.
Fighting Climate Change
The urgency of climate change cannot be overstated. The Speed and Scale initiative highlights our immediate need for action, focusing on creating effective solutions to drastically reduce carbon emissions. I encourage you to explore how you can get involved, whether through developing a deeper understanding of the issues or supporting organizations actively working towards a sustainable future.
Two such organizations are Outdoor Alliance and Protect Our Winters, which mobilize the outdoor sports and recreation community to advocate for policies that combat climate change. Their work emphasizes that our love for nature can translate into impactful action.
Ensuring Access to Outdoor Spaces
Equitable access to the outdoors is essential for everyone. the Service Board empowers young people through outdoor experiences and community service, encouraging the next generation to appreciate and protect our natural spaces. It’s vital that we create a world where everyone can experience the wonder of the outdoors.
Two other organizations close to my heart are the Washington Trails Association and Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, which work tirelessly to maintain and improve hiking and biking trails across Washington State. Their efforts ensure that everyone has opportunities to experience the beauty and serenity of our landscapes while promoting responsible outdoor practices.
