Here’s your Daily Brief for September 15th:
Ethipedia – An Encyclopedia of Sustainable Business Practices – This is an interesting new project out; an online encyclopedia dedicated to creating a database of documented sustainable business practices that companies can reference and replicate. Here’s the CSRwire Press Release
Franchising in Frontier Markets (via NextBillion.net) – A thoughtful post on franchising in BOP-markets
Clouds – Affordable Neighborhood Internet Facilities (via VC4Africa) – In an effort to expand internet accessibility across Africa, a company has designed “Clouds” to serve as small internet-hubs that can be franchised and run by community entrepreneurs. I’m a little wary on the business model — if the mission is to bring these “Clouds” to areas where online connectivity is currently unavailable, I believe they are going to run into really high connectivity costs (even with SEACOM). I’d be curious to see a more detailed explanation of their business model and strategy.
